Research strategies

Researchers carry out scientific and technological research and innovation in various sectors, such as manufacturing (Digital Factory), transport and health, which contribute to the growth and well-being of our society.

As far as the Digital Factory is concerned, the Department has established skills and experience in the development and use of technologies typical of the context and intends to continue with a project that puts the person, from worker to manager, at the centre of the Digital Factory. ICT technologies no longer just support production processes, but are integrated into components, machines, management systems and environments to become Cyber Physical Production Systems in which the operator is not just an element of the system or a user of services and information, but the centre around which digital technologies merge information and activities in the production process.

As far as the field of Health is concerned, the Department has, for several years, been on a path that aims to develop innovative initiatives to meet the needs that have been emerging in recent years in the Health sector. The project, which is highly inclusive and multidisciplinary, aims to implement a virtuous teaching-research system capable of combining technological and management aspects with those typical of the world of healthcare with a special focus on chronic diseases. The project aims, therefore, to create a supply chain of excellence in the field of chronic disease management, by bringing together the skills, bodies (e.g. hospital authorities, ATS, Kilometro Rosso, Confindustria, Chamber of Commerce and Mario Negri) and companies in the area.

The scientific areas belonging to DIGIP, although the size of the research groups varies, have a recognised leading position nationally, as shown by the recent VQR and the projects purchased through competitive European calls for bids. Members of the Department have and are participating in various research projects co-funded by public and private entities.
